I was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria. I came to Vienna in 1999 to study medicine, and in 2006, I graduated from the Medical University of Vienna. The topic of my thesis, done in Prof. Ferenci’s group, was the genetics of Wilson’s Disease in Bulgaria. A few months later I started my PhD in Prof. Gasche’s lab.

My current project is on the influence of iron deficiency on megakaryopoiesis. I am actively involved in cellular and molecular biology work, animal experiments and clinical trials.
